Shock Waves is a 1977 American horror movie during which shipwreck survivors uncover a Third Reich commandant and his unit of zombie troopers.
Directed by Ken Wiederhorn (Freddy’s Nightmares TV sequence; Darkish Tower; Return of the Dwelling Useless Half 2; Eyes of a Stranger) from a screenplay co-written with John Harrison (Homicide By Telephone).
The Reuben Trane produced film stars Peter Cushing, Brooke Adams, Fred Buch, Jack Davidson, Luke Halprin, D.J. Sidney, Don Stout and John Carradine.
Shot on 16mm (later blown as much as 35mm) between July and August 1975, the film was initially titled Loss of life Corps. In 1977, it was picked up for US distribution by exploitation film professionals Joseph Brenner Associates (Torso; Post-mortem; Eyeball) and retitled Shock Waves.
Within the UK, the movie was launched in 1978 with a BBFC ‘A’ score as Virtually Human by David Grant (who was later imprisoned for distributing Nightmares in a Broken Mind on VHS).
The synth rating was composed by Richard Einhorn (The Prowler). In 2016, it was remastered for a vinyl launch by Waxwork Data. The seafoam inexperienced LP contains liner notes by Einhorn and director Ken Wiederhorn and options cowl artwork by Marc Schoenbach and centre label artwork by Gary Pullin.
